The Gurten, Bern’s local mountain at 860 m above sea level, is easily reached by the Gurtenbahn from the Wabern district of Bern. The Gurten is an ideal place to escape the city hustle and bustle and relax in nature. There are many cultural activities on the Gurten, which is why the mountain can also be called Bern’s cultural mountain. The view from the Gurten stretches across the city of Bern to the famous peaks of the Bernese Alps. The magnificent view of Bern can be enjoyed in the à la carte restaurant “Gurtners” or on the terrace of the self-service restaurant “Tapis Rouge”. Thanks to its elevated position, the Gurten is far enough away from Bern to allow a clear view of the stars. There are also numerous seminar rooms on the Gurten where you can organise your events, which can also be combined with an astronomy evening.
From March 2022, there will be an observatory on the Gurten, which will be open once a week. The observatory will also be integrated into our astronomy evenings on the Gurten.
